Look: We Need Flowers!

When I was a young girl, we were fairly poor. But, my Mom made it a priority to have a fresh bouquet of flowers in the house. They usually weren’t store bought, but were from the garden, or my Grandmother’s garden. For several years, we lived within walking distance from her house. I loved coming home with fresh Hydrangeas or Roses!

Flowers are good for us, not just because they smell good. An article from Evolutionary Psychology, “An Environmental Approach to Positive Emotion: Flowers” explains that flowers aren’t just a good gift to get your woman. It turns out, they not only boost a woman’s mood for up to 3 days, they also improve memory in the elderly (for both men and woman). They go one to explain it all in 26 pages, but the short of it is that flowers = better mood. So, now I just wonder if a photograph of flowers can cause the same positive mood?

I think perhaps, just having natural beauty around us brings a sense of calm to our environment. And, maybe that’s why I love to photograph Flowers and Nature so much!

This bit of information inspired me to put several photographs together and sell them as a collection rather than single prints. If you haven’t visited my Etsy shop, here’s a look at the flowers:

1-8x10 and 2-5x7 Prints, ready to fly through the mail!
